Counselling, What It Is, And How It Can Help You. All forms of counselling have been developed to assist people who have a problem that they cannot successfully solve themselves, or with the help of friends and family. Your counsellor is a completely independent person who will listen carefully, will not judge, and using learned skills to help you to work out the best way forward for you.

There are several forms of counselling. Each has its own place in helping people with different types of problems. Many counsellors use what is called integrative counselling. This means they use several methods to gain the best outcome.

COGNITIVE THERAPY.

This method is about changing the way we think. The way we think, controls the way we act. When our thoughts become out of control, we act in ways that are negative and sometimes harmful to ourselves and others. It deals not with the origin of the presenting difficulty, but examines present behaviours. Cognitive therapy has been very successful in treating a wide range of disorders.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

This form of therapy is normally much longer term and seeks to deal with deep seated issues.

TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS

This entails looking closely at childhood, how we view it and what we bring from it into adulthood. Most counsellors using integrative counselling would use some information from this method to build a picture of their client.

HUMANISTIC COUNSELLING

This form of counselling is generally recognised as very client friendly, with client and counsellor forming an equal relationship, in order to work together towards a positive outcome.

All members of the collective have been trained in these methods of helping people. Your counsellor will not tell you what to do, but assist you to find ways to lead a more positive and happier life.
